96% of A-Level results submitted to BUK for 2024 direct entry are fake – JAMB, ,
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has revealed that 96% of the A-level results submitted to Bayero University, Kano (BUK) for Direct Entry admission in 2024 were forged.
According to JAMB’s bulletin, out of 148 A-level results presented to BUK, only six were genuine, while the remaining 142 were fake. This was uncovered during routine screening and verification.
Following this discovery, JAMB has urged tertiary institutions to independently verify all submitted documents to prevent fraudulent admissions. To address this issue, JAMB introduced the Nigeria Integrated Post-Secondary Education Data System (NIPEDS) two years ago, which helps detect fake A-level certificates, including those from foreign institutions.
Recently, thirteen more fake A-level certificates were flagged through NIPEDS, some of which had already been used to secure admission offers. The individuals involved have been handed over to law enforcement agencies for further action.
JAMB has warned that tertiary institutions admitting candidates with forged credentials may be held responsible and emphasized that institutions should not rely solely on NIPEDS for verification but should conduct their own checks.
In one case, several applicants submitted fake IJMBE results from Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria in an attempt to gain admission.
JAMB reaffirmed its commitment to eliminating fraud in the admission process and urged institutions to work together to ensure that only qualified candidates are admitted based on merit.
