By Florencemary Nwabueze
Newly redeployed Commissioner of Police, Police Special Fraud Unit ,PSFU Lagos, Eloho Okpoziakpo, has charged officers and men of the unit to rededicate themselves to professionalism, diligence and strict adherence to the rule of law, warning that indiscipline would no longer be tolerated under his leadership.
Okpoziakpo gave the charge during his maiden briefing at the unit’s headquarters in Milverton, Ikoyi, yesterday, marking his resumption as the 34th Commissioner of Police of the PSFU.
He stated that in line with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, any act of indiscipline or lack of professionalism by operatives in the unit would be met with decisive action.
He said, “Discipline remains the bedrock of the Nigeria Police Force. I will not condone indiscipline among officers and men under my command. Professionalism, respect for human dignity, and strict adherence to the rule of law must define our conduct at all times. I enjoin all officers and men to treat members of the public with dignity, courtesy, and the utmost respect. We must remain professional in the discharge of our duties. Respect, as they say, is reciprocal.
“Therefore, I also urge members of the public to engage with the police and other security agencies with civility and mutual respect. See us as partners and work hand- in- hand with us in our shared responsibility of maintaining law and order. Any officer found wanting in the discharge of their duties will face decisive disciplinary action. Accountability and transparency will be the cornerstone of this administration. Our mandate is clear: to protect citizens, safeguard economic activities, and ensure that perpetrators of financial crimes are brought to justice without fear or favour”, he stated.
The CP expressed gratitude to the IGP for the confidence reposed in him, noting that ongoing reforms within the Nigeria Police Force were already yielding positive results. He pledged to align the PSFU with the reform agenda by “ building a unit that is responsive, accountable, and respected for its professionalism in handling complex financial and other related crimes”.
