In a remarkable show of brilliance and grit, 19-year-old Oluwatosin Emmanuel Suleiman, a former Chief of Operations at the Smartan House, has emerged as one of the most outstanding graduates of the Africa Leadership Academy (ALA) Class of 2025.
Oluwatosin, fondly known as “Tosin” by peers and mentors, clinched two of the academy’s most prestigious honours: the Academic Excellence Award in Physics and the Dean Christopher Khaemba Award for Academic Excellence, distinguishing himself among Africa’s finest young minds.
Tosin’s journey is one of uncommon courage and quiet defiance of circumstance. Raised in a humble background, his path to ALA was paved through the transformative influence of the Smartan House — a visionary initiative dedicated to growing a new generation of critical thinkers and problem solvers from underserved communities. From his early days as a Smartan teen to rising through the ranks as Chief of Operations, Tosin consistently exemplified leadership, discipline, and a deep hunger for knowledge.
At the graduation ceremony held in Johannesburg, South Africa, Tosin stood tall not just as a student but as a symbol of what is possible when potential meets opportunity and is nurtured with love, structure, and mentorship.
Reacting to the awards, Johnson Abbaly, founder of the Smartan House, say,s “This is a crowning moment for all the hard work Tosin had put into self-development and personal leadership. He continues to inspire us all at the Smartan House”.
His story is a living testimony to the power of vision-driven communities like the Smartan House, and a veiled call to action for society at large to invest intentionally in the next generation of builders, thinkers, and doers.
Tosin’s journey is far from over. As he sets his eyes on even bigger stages, one thing is clear — the world has not seen the last of this brilliant young African.
Africa is rising, and Oluwatosin is proof.
