Chaos in Kwara: Over 10 Students Injured as Rival Schools Clash in Ilorin

A violent clash between students of two secondary schools in Ilorin, Kwara State, has left several injured, with over ten students reportedly wounded in a dispute that escalated into chaos on Monday. The altercation involved students from Government High School and Government Day Secondary School, both located in Adeta.

Eyewitnesses reported that the fracas began around 11:00 am, following a long-standing disagreement between students of the two schools. “More than ten students were wounded in the melee that threw the area into pandemonium,” shared an eyewitness, noting that tensions had been building for about two weeks and were believed to have culminated in a suspected reprisal attack.

Some sources suggest the fight may be linked to cult-like activities and a battle for supremacy among the students, a disturbing trend that has raised concerns within the community.

Police spokesperson DSP Toun Ejire-Adeyemi confirmed the incident, noting that officers made several arrests during the intervention. “Some of the suspects were arrested in batches during the police random intervention while the incident lasted,” she said, adding that investigations are ongoing to determine the root cause of the violence.

Peter Amogbonjaye, Press Secretary for the Ministry of Education, indicated that an official statement addressing the incident would be released soon. The violent clash has sparked widespread concerns about student safety and the growing influence of cultism in secondary schools.
