Edo Poly suspends fee payment checks for students applying for NELFUND loans,

Edo State Polytechnic, Usen, has suspended its policy requiring students to present proof of fee payment during examinations for those applying for student loans through the Nigeria Education Loan Fund (NELFUND).

The institution’s Rector, Sylvester Omoruyi, made the announcement on Tuesday during a sensitization programme organized by NELFUND at the polytechnic’s main campus.

He assured students that once they register on the NELFUND portal, they would no longer be barred from writing exams due to unpaid fees.

Omoruyi commended President Bola Tinubu for initiating the scheme and praised the Edo State government for its support.

He also lauded NELFUND for easing the financial burden on students by covering tuition and providing upkeep allowances.

Meanwhile, NELFUND’s Managing Director, Akintunde Sawyerr, represented by Director of Loan Allocation and Distribution, Lami Suwaid, urged the polytechnic to submit student data for the scheme.

He noted that the South-South and South-East regions had the lowest registration rates and called for increased participation.

Edo State’s Commissioner for Education, Dr. Paddy Iyamu, reiterated the government’s commitment to supporting NELFUND, emphasizing that the initiative would help students access education without financial strain.

Students, including a Business Administration undergraduate, Oboh Victor, expressed excitement about the loan scheme, stating that it would enable them to complete their studies without financial difficulties.
