Education officers charged to implement digital attendance in Ogun schools, ,
The Ogun State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB, and the Universal Basic Education Commission, UBEC, have called on Education Management Information System, EMIS officers to fully adopt the newly introduced digital monitoring system designed to track learners’ attendance across public basic schools in the State.
Chairman of SUBEB, Olalekan Ifede, made the call during a 3-day capacity-building workshop on the Basic Education Management Information System (BAMIS) application, held at SUBEB Conference Room, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta on Wednesday.
DAILY POST reports that the training, supported by World Bank under the Better Education Service Delivery for All (BESDA) programme, was jointly organised by SUBEB and UBEC.
Ifede stated the workshop would further strengthen the State’s EMIS operations and align them with the Digital Platform for Education Revitalisation (DIPER), in line with Governor Dapo Abiodun’s Building Our Future Together agenda.
He urged participants to cascade the knowledge gained to teachers and school managers to ensure effective, real-time monitoring of learners’ attendance.
“I am particularly grateful that we have begun implementing the BESDA projects in the State despite initial delays. Since assuming office, I have worked to resume pending training and programmes, including BESDA. I hope other activities under the programme will proceed as scheduled to support my vision of ensuring that all learners in the State are proficient in literacy, numeracy and effective communication,” he said.
Ifede congratulated the EMIS officers selected for the training and encouraged them to fully engage with the facilitators to maximise the benefits, stressing that accurate data remains central to effective basic education delivery.
Also speaking, Permanent Member IV of the Board, Akeem Balogun, commended the resource persons for what he described as a job well done, urging participants to reflect the knowledge gained during the workshop and apply it to enhance efficiency in their various departments.
In his welcome address, SUBEB Board Secretary, Mr. Olubori Akinleye, highlighted the importance of continuous training to keep education managers updated with modern, data-driven practices, stressing that timely and accurate data collection is essential for effective planning and decision-making.
Facilitators from UBEC, Assistant Chief Project Officer, Ilyas Hussain, Assistant Chief Data Analyst, Mr Shehu Gusau and Principal Education Officer, Mr. Adams Adedeji, explained that the BAMIS application was designed to enhance data collection, improve monitoring and support informed decision-making across the basic education sector.
They outlined several benefits of the BAMIS platform, including real-time attendance tracking, improved data accuracy, strengthened planning and resource allocation, enhanced monitoring and supervision, reduced workload and broad support for digital transformation in education.
Speaking on behalf of the participants, Mr Bakare Mobolaji from the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology and Mr. Banjo Babatunde of SUBEB, noted that the training would significantly enhance digital attendance monitoring and deepen their understanding of EMIS data collation.
