FUOYE appoints Joshua Ogunwole as 5th Vice-Chancellor, ,
The Federal University, Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) has appointed Professor Joshua Olalekan Ogunwole as its new Vice-Chancellor.
The announcement was made on Thursday by the Chairman of the university’s Governing Council, Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba (SAN).
This follows a council meeting held at the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) headquarters in Abuja.
Ogunwole, a professor of Soil Science, currently serves as the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Strategic Partnerships, Research, Innovation and Linkages at FUOYE.
He will officially assume office on February 11, 2026, succeeding the outgoing Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abayomi Sunday Fasina, whose tenure expires on February 10, 2026.
Ndoma-Egba hailed Fasina for steering the university to greater heights and noted that Ogunwole will remain Vice Chancellor-designate until the handover date.
He disclosed that Ogunwole emerged successful in a competitive selection process that attracted 64 applicants, including two expatriates.
According to him, the recruitment exercise was the first fully digitalised vice-chancellor selection process in the Nigerian university system.
“The applications were received online and assessed through a digital system. However, to ensure transparency, accuracy and fairness, manual verification was also conducted, especially regarding academic and professional claims,” Ndoma-Egba explained.
The Council Chairman added that the selection process began in February 2025 with the mandatory public advertisement of the position for six weeks, after which all applications were screened and shortlisted candidates vetted by the Department of State Services (DSS) in Ekiti State.
“At the end of a very thorough exercise, the Council approved the most suitable and qualified candidate, and we emerged with Professor Joshua Olalekan Ogunwole as the fifth Vice-Chancellor of FUOYE,” he said.
