    The Chairman, Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union, COEASU, in Kwara State, Yahaya Muhammed Ndagi, has asked the state government to clarify the status of the College of Education, Ilorin, in line with the establishment of the State University of Education.

    Speaking during a visit by the executives of the union to the state Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Hajia Sa’adatu Modibbo Kawu, in Ilorin, Yahaya noted the need for a clear transition framework and the urgency of addressing leadership vacancies among other pressing issues.

    He commended the regular payment of staff salaries and allowances by the government, which according to him, contributed to the smooth academic operations of the institutions.

    In her response, Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Hajia Sa’adatu Modibbo Kawu, reaffirmed the state government’s commitment towards achieving quality education in the state.

    She emphasized that the current administration’s dedication to improving the education sector is evident in the establishment of the Kwara State University of Education, Ilorin.

    According to her, “establishment of the Kwara State University of Education is a proof to Governor AbdulRazaq’s passion for qualitative education,” adding that “this administration is committed to creating more opportunities for higher learning, ensuring that students and academic staff benefited from a well-structured and forward-thinking educational system.”

    Hajia Modibbo Kawu, further assured that the Kwara State government is taking all necessary steps to address the concerns of COEASU and the entire college community.

    Governor Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq, added that the gobvernment values the contributions of the academic staff and remains committed to their professional growth and the development of the educational institutions in the state.

    She reassured COEASU that Governor Abdulrazaq, “is known for his proactive and responsive leadership,” asserting that the governor would attend to all their requests accordingly.

    Meanwhile, the National Universities Commission, NUC, officially recognized the university on July 30, 2024, marking it as the 64th state-owned university and 274th in Nigeria.

    In November 2024, Governor AbdulRazaq inaugurated the university’s Governing Council, appointing Professor Shuaib Oba AbdulRaheem as its chairman and pro-chancellor, facilitating the institution’s official takeoff, according to a statement by the Press Secretary of the ministry, Omotayo Ayanda, in Ilorin on Thursday.
