In a significant move to bolster the cultural and academic leadership at Kwara State University (KWASU), the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh, has officially appointed Professor Oluremi Mabel Awogbade as the Director of the Museum, Gallery, and Heritage Centre.

In parallel, she has also been named the Head of the Department of Fine and Applied Arts. These appointments, which reflect her extensive experience and distinguished leadership capabilities, were formally communicated through notices dated October 21, 2024, by the university’s Registrar, Dr. Kikelomo W. Sallee.

The appointments are a testament to Professor Awogbade’s exemplary contributions and are expected to further enrich the university’s cultural and academic framework. Known as KWASU’s 16th inaugural lecturer, Professor Awogbade recently delivered a compelling inaugural lecture on October 23, 2024, titled “Nurturing Creative Minds: Child Development, Art Education, and National Development,” highlighting her commitment to integrating art education with broader developmental goals.

Professor Awogbade brings to her new roles a profound expertise in Fine Arts, with a specialization in Art Education, Ceramics, Textile, and Graphic Designs. Her journey with Kwara State University began in 2014 when she joined as a Senior Lecturer, rapidly advancing to the rank of Professor by 2020.

This trajectory underscores her dedication and impact within the academic community.

The dual appointments are not only a recognition of Professor Awogbade’s past achievements but also a strategic endeavor by the university to harness her vision in advancing the institution’s cultural heritage and academic excellence.

Her leadership is anticipated to innovate and elevate the university’s artistic programs and heritage initiatives, nurturing the creative talents of students and contributing to the national discourse on art and development.
