Lagos shuts Ladipo Spare Parts Market over environmental violations,

    By Olasunkanmi Akoni

LAGOS – The Lagos State Government on Sunday ordered the closure of the popular Ladipo Spare Parts Market in Mushin over persistent environmental violations and disregard for public order.

The Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, announced the action via a public statement on social media. The enforcement, carried out along the Apapa–Oshodi Expressway corridor, followed repeated infractions by traders and market operators.

Officials cited indiscriminate dumping of refuse on roads and highways, as well as widespread illegal street trading, as key reasons for the closure. Wahab noted that such activities not only degrade the environment but also obstruct traffic and pose public safety risks.

Ladipo Market, a major hub for automobile spare parts in Lagos and beyond, was sealed as part of the state’s ongoing campaign to enforce environmental regulations and maintain urban order.

The government has repeatedly warned traders, market leaders, and residents to refrain from unlawful waste disposal and street trading. Authorities affirmed that monitoring and enforcement operations will continue across Lagos, with defaulters facing similar sanctions.
