Member representing Surulere I Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Fuad Kayode Laguda, has highlighted his legislative and constituency achievements as he marked two years in office, outlining interventions across education, infrastructure, economic empowerment and community development.
Laguda, who noted that he was sworn in on this day in 2024, said his representation has focused on advancing the interests of constituents through lawmaking, welfare initiatives and grassroots development programmes.
According to the lawmaker, he has sponsored and presented several bills, motions and matters of urgent public importance covering sectors such as education, institutional development, health, environmental protection, workers’ welfare and safety.
On education, Laguda said his office provided scholarships and bursaries to indigent students and facilitated the construction of a six-classroom block at Surulere Primary School. He added that thousands of pupils and students received back-to-school materials, while laptops were distributed to learners in secondary and tertiary institutions. Tens of thousands of exercise books and academic materials were also supplied to schools, alongside the distribution of hundreds of JAMB and GCE registration forms.
The legislator stated that human capital development remained central to his agenda, citing skills training and empowerment initiatives that included provision of tools for financial independence such as vehicles for e-hailing services, computers and grinding machines. He added that employment opportunities were secured for 25 constituents across government agencies.
In infrastructure, Laguda listed the rehabilitation of Augusto Close and Anifowoshe Close with solar-powered street lighting, installation of transformers, deployment of solar lights across parts of Surulere and the commencement of a 500-seat Computer-Based Test and ICT Skills Development Centre.
He also highlighted social and youth-focused programmes such as financial support for small businesses, health and welfare assistance, and initiatives including “Fitness with FKL,” “Language with FKL,” and the FKL Art Initiative. Other interventions include collaboration with community development associations to address local needs, and a graduate internship placement programme implemented in partnership with the Lagos State Government to provide mentorship and career support for young people.
Laguda attributed the reported achievements to the support and feedback of constituents, reaffirming his commitment to sustained and effective representation.
