Every two weeks, the world loses a language forever. With it disappears centuries of culture, wisdom, and identity. UNESCO reports that at least 40% of the world’s approximate 7,000 languages are already endangered today, and it is predicted[MO[1] that nearly half of the world’s 7,000 languages could vanish by the end of this century.
Nigeria, Africa’s most populous nation, is not exempt. Rapid globalisation, migration, technology, and media influence are distancing younger generations from their mother tongues. Without urgent action, Igbo, Yoruba, Hausa, and many more could fade away.
MyDialecta, a new digital, live language learning platform, has launched to change that story. Its mission: to preserve, revive, and celebrate Africa’s indigenous languages by making them accessible, engaging, and relevant for today’s learners.

A Mission Rooted in Heritage and Innovation
Founded by Mojisola Ogunleye with co-founders Michael Oladele and Oluwatosin Ogunleye, MyDialecta combines cultural passion with educational innovation. With a custom-built video classroom and smart scheduling tools, they are building a movement to raise learners to true proficiency in Nigerian languages while reconnecting families and communities with their roots.
Who Is MyDialecta for?
MyDialecta empowers:
- Children 5 years and above, Teens, and Adults in Nigeria and the diaspora who deserve a strong connection to their cultural heritage.
- Individuals who want to learn or improve fluency in their indigenous language.
- Adults and professionals seeking Nigerian languages for business, intercultural marriages, networking, or personal growth.
Schools: The Heartbeat of Language Sustainability
MyDialecta believes schools are essential partners in this mission. By integrating Yoruba, Hausa, and Igbo into classrooms, extracurricular programs and activity options, schools can help children strengthen their identity while also gaining the cognitive, social, and competitive advantages of multilingualism.
Through resources, training, and community programs, MyDialecta is working with educators, parents, and cultural leaders to ensure indigenous languages are not just preserved but celebrated.
Join the Movement
“Language is more than communication; it is identity. Losing it means losing ourselves,” says founder Mojisola Ogunleye. “MyDialecta exists to make sure that never happens in Nigeria.”
MyDialecta invites families, schools, and individuals worldwide to join the movement to protect and revive indigenous languages. Start learning Igbo, Hausa and Yoruba today at wwww.mydialecta.com.
