The Niger State Government has ordered the immediate closure of two secondary schools in Minna due to escalating violence linked to student gang activities.
Hon. Dr. Hadiza Mohammed, the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, identified the affected schools as Government Day Secondary School, Bosso Road, Minna, and Father O’Connell Science College (GSS), Minna.
According to the Commissioner, the decision was made following persistent clashes between students and local youths, which have resulted in casualties.
She emphasized that the shutdown will remain in effect until further notice to curb the rising trend of gang violence and prevent its spread to other institutions.
Reports indicate that student gangs in these schools have been involved in violent confrontations, prompting the state government to take decisive action.
