Ogun Education Ministry Rakes in ₦1.5 Billion in 10 Months, Targets ₦2.5 Billion for 2025

The Ogun State Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology has announced a revenue generation of ₦1.5 billion between January and October 2024.

The disclosure was made by Abayomi Arigbabu, the Commissioner for Education, while defending the ministry’s 2025 budget proposal before the Ogun State Assembly Committee on Finance and Appropriation in Abeokuta on Wednesday.

The committee, chaired by Musefiu Lamidi (APC-Ado Odo Ota II), heard that the ministry has proposed a ₦59.4 billion budget for 2025, comprising ₦24.7 billion for recurrent expenditure and ₦34.7 billion for capital projects.

Mr. Arigbabu detailed the ministry’s revenue expectations for 2025, stating: “The ministry proposed to rake in ₦2.5 billion as revenue in 2025.” He outlined various sources of revenue, including “private school licenses, inspection fees, school/tuition/examination fees, and renewal fees.”

Other revenue streams highlighted by the commissioner include “sales of bills of entries, application forms, and earnings from the use of government halls, among others.”

In his address, Mr. Arigbabu emphasized the government’s commitment to improving education infrastructure. He revealed that plans are in place to procure new educational and vocational equipment and to ramp up construction efforts in schools. “There is a need to intervene in the number of schools in the state,” he said, underscoring the urgency of the initiative.
