Police Arrest Blessed Peace School Teacher for Alleged Sexual Assault of 10-Year-Old Student

22-year-old Prosper, a teacher at Blessed Peace School in Egbeda, Lagos, has been arrested for the alleged sexual assault of a 10-year-old student.

According to a report, the heinous act took place on Friday, October 18, 2024, when Prosper reportedly lured the boy under the pretense of a promising spelling bee and art competition, only to lead him to a secluded area within the school premises.

The victim was not the only child in peril; an 11-year-old student who felt threatened by Prosper’s advances bravely reported the unsettling incidents to their parents. This pivotal step initiated an investigation that unveiled the full extent of the teacher’s predatory behaviour.

The reports that Prosper was apprehended on November 13, while allegedly attempting to exploit another student.

Initially detained at the Idimu Police Division, he was later transferred to the Police Gender Unit for further legal action.

In response to the alarming situation, Ololade Ajayi, the operator of an NGO dedicated to combating gender-based violence, voiced serious concerns regarding potential delays in the prosecution of the case.

“Since the case was transferred to the Gender Unit, there’s been a lack of progress. I’ve offered assistance to the family, but the unit’s response has been inconsistent,” Ajayi stated, underscoring the challenges in coordinating with law enforcement to ensure justice.

The Idimu Police Division has confirmed the case referral to the Gender Unit, directing further inquiries to the specialized department as the community seeks answers and justice for the affected children.
