{"id":10319,"date":"2025-04-11T02:08:00","date_gmt":"2025-04-11T02:08:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/edumarkng.com\/news\/unicef-begins-training-of-abia-teachers-on-digital-learning-tools\/"},"modified":"2025-04-11T08:38:50","modified_gmt":"2025-04-11T08:38:50","slug":"unicef-begins-training-of-abia-teachers-on-digital-learning-tools","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/edumarkng.com\/news\/unicef-begins-training-of-abia-teachers-on-digital-learning-tools\/","title":{"rendered":"UNICEF begins training of Abia teachers on digital learning tools"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"text-align:center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.vanguardngr.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/UNICEF.webp\" class=\"attachment-post-thumbnail size-post-thumbnail wp-post-image\" alt=\"UNICEF begins training of Abia teachers on digital learning tools\" title=\"UNICEF begins training of Abia teachers on digital learning tools\" \/><\/div><p>UNICEF begins training of Abia teachers on digital learning tools, <\/p>\n<p><strong>By Steve Oko<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>UMUAHIA\u2014UNICEF has commenced training of teachers in Abia State on digital learning tools to enhance their proficiency and digital compliance.<\/p>\n<p>According to UNICEF, 500 teachers are targeted in the first phase of the project which began with 100 teachers in Ohafia Local Government Area.<\/p>\n<p>Addressing the trainees during a two-day workshop at Enuda Primary School Abiriba, Ohafia LGA, Education Specialist, UNICEF Enugu Field Office, Dr Agatha Nzeribe, said the aim of the training was to expose teachers to the Nigeria Learning Passport (NLP) \u2013 a digital platform developed to mitigate the challenge of insufficient instructional materials.<\/p>\n<p>She explained that NLP enables teachers to gain free online access to relevant materials needed to effectively impart knowledge.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTeachers and students using the platform can have access to developed lesson notes on different topics\u201d, she said, adding that NLP came into focus during the COVID-19 era.<\/p>\n<p>She further explained that the training was aimed at teaching teachers to adopt a blended learning approach that would help scale up their abilities for better results.<\/p>\n<p>The UNICEF Education Specialist further said that the training was part of efforts to prepare Abia teachers and other education stakeholders ahead of the\u00a0 Global Partnership for Education GPE System Transformation Grant, STG, fund disbursement recently approved for the state.<\/p>\n<p>She disclosed that $7 million US Dollars had been approved for the state, adding that capacity has to be built for teachers before the up-take of the largesse.<\/p>\n<p>GPE is a World Bank-hosted multi-stakeholder partnership that aims to strengthen global education.<\/p>\n<p>The UNICEF Education Specialist who disclosed that the current training was bankrolled by \u201cIHS Towers\u201d, said more teachers in other LGAs would also benefit from the project.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is UNICEF support for Abia and we got it from IHS Towers\u00a0 for the implementation of NLP activities \u201c, she said.<\/p>\n<p>One of the facilitators and UNICEF Desk Officer, Enugu SUBEB, Mr Benjamin Ugwuanyi, said the need for digital competence among teachers in a technology-driven society, necessitated the workshop.<\/p>\n<p>He said:\u201d There has been a paradigm shift in the way we teach in our classrooms.
