Akada Festival to Promote Reading Culture, Showcase Indigenous Authors\u00a0, , <\/p>\n

Nigeria\u2019s first and largest children\u2019s book festival, the Akada Children\u2019s Book Festival (ACBF) is set to hold its seventh edition on October 25, at the UPBEAT Recreation Centre, Lekki, Lagos.<\/p>\n

Themed, \u2018Book An Adventure\u2019, the festival is aimed at promoting literacy and nurturing a lifelong love of reading among children while providing a platform for indigenous authors, diverse stories, and inclusive learning.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Since its launch in 2019, ACBF has drawn more than 10,000 attendees and donated over 5,000 books to expand access to quality reading materials.<\/p>\n

Speaking on this year\u2019s theme, convener and renowned author, Mrs. Olubunmi Aboderin Talabi, explained that the festival invites children to see reading as a doorway to imagination, knowledge and culture. \u201cAdventure lies at the heart of every great story, and this year, we want children to discover reading as a doorway to endless possibilities. \u2018Book An Adventure\u2019 is more than a theme, it\u2019s an invitation for young readers to explore knowledge, culture, and imagination,\u201d she stated.<\/p>\n

The 2025 edition will feature author-led book readings, book chats, story time, exhibitions, a chess tournament, a young authors\u2019 spotlight, as well as workshops for parents, teachers, writers, illustrators and publishers. More than 20 original children\u2019s books will be showcased, including, \u2018The Invincible Will\u2019 by Amadi Njoku; \u2018Bisola and the Colourful Jars\u2019 by Lola Odeyale Ayo-Fashida; \u2018The Magical Market of Maraba\u2019 by Solape Azazi; \u2018The Water School\u2019 by Ogbu Eme; and \u2018The Boy Who Grew Backwards\u2019 by Kanyisola Balogun-Kuku.<\/p>\n

Some of the authors lauded the festival\u2019s impact on childhood literacy. Eme described ACBF as \u201ca well-tended nursery where every child can bloom,\u201d while Azazi said it reminds the world that \u201cevery child deserves to see themselves in a story, and to know that their voice belongs in the world.\u201d<\/p>\n
