Yenagoa—Three persons have been killed in a violent cult clash at the Igbogene suburb of Yenagoa, Bayelsa State capital.

The attack, which occured Sunday night, caused panic as gunshots were heard in different parts of the area.

Though the identities of the victims could not be immediately ascertained, eyewitnesses described the clash as a continuation of disturbing cult-related violence plaguing parts of the state.

Residents reportedly fled their homes, as business activities were halted during the violence.
A resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity for fear of reprisal called for intensified security surveillance to restore calm in the area.

This latest incident adds to recent cult clashes in parts of the state with six people reportedly killed in separate incidents, raising safety concerns.

Residents are calling on the state government and security agencies to prevent further bloodshed.
Contacted, spokesman of the state police command, Musa Muhammed, confirmed the incident.

He said: “Yes, three lives were lost. Investigation has commenced and efforts is on to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects.”
