Lawan applauds Tinubu’s expansion of army to 12 Divisions,

Commends recruitment of 28,000 personnel, says move will improve response to security threats

    By Henry Umoru

ABUJA — Former Senate President and Chairman of the Senate Committee on Defence, Senator Ahmad Lawan (APC, Yobe North), has commended President Bola Tinubu for expanding the Nigerian Army to 12 divisions and approving the recruitment of 28,000 young Nigerians into the military.

Lawan, in a statement he personally signed on Wednesday, described the decision as a strategic move that would strengthen Nigeria’s security architecture and enhance the military’s capacity to respond to emerging threats.

He said the creation of additional divisions would reduce response time to security challenges, particularly in ungoverned spaces, adding that a stronger military structure would help accelerate efforts to end insurgency and other security threats.

Lawan said, “The asymmetric nature of modern warfare requires not just superior firepower, but superior manpower, strategic spread and operational agility. With this expansion, the Commander-in-Chief has demonstrated that he is not just a listening leader, but a thinking leader.”

According to him, the recruitment of 28,000 young Nigerians into the Army would strengthen national defence while creating employment opportunities for youths and reducing their vulnerability to crime and extremism.

He added that the reforms in the nation’s security sector would contribute to the success of the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Tinubu administration, stressing that efforts to secure the country must be sustained.

“More robust order of battle means a faster and more decisive end to the remnants of insurgency that have troubled our peace,” Lawan said.

He prayed for the success of the Nigerian Armed Forces and the continued peace and stability of the country.
